The January transfer window opened for the English Premier League on January 3rd, and of course there is already speculation on who Louis van Gaal, along with Ed Woodward, will be bringing into the Manchester United squad this new year.
As in previous years, leaks had tended to come out of the club easier than they do now under Louis van Gaal, with the former Netherlands coach attempting to keep transfer matters close to the club and those who are behind the scenes. Even the media and local journalists are not getting as much information out of Carrington as they used to do, especially under David Moyes where leaks and information were passed on daily, even from those high up in the club.
Looking ahead to this transfer window, it seems that Manchester United will be active in both incomings and outgoings if the market plays ball. The defence of Manchester United is one that needs to bolstered, but looking around the European market at the start of 2015, at players that are available, it is pretty slim pickings.
One signing that is looking closer to happening this new year, is that of Victor Valdes becoming the clubs new number 2 goalkeeper. A source close to the club had revealed to RM towards the end of 2014, that Valdes has been in the market to purchase a new car, seemingly for his family as he had visited a car dealership to inquire about a new Ford S-Max 7 seater – Likely to be planning for the rest of the year in Manchester, at least, with his supermodel wife Yolanda and three children, Dylan, Kai, and Vera joining him.
Valdes is currently taking up residence at the clubs hotel, the Lowry, in the centre of Manchester. The hotel itself has been the location for all United’s signings over the past few months, especially the busy summer period, and a stop off location before players have found a property to buy within the local area.
Looking at the outgoings of the club, and if Valdes does put pen to paper on a contract, then surely Anders Lindegaard will no longer want to pick his nose at being a number three at the club.
There has been much said about Anderson in the past, but Manchester United have struggled to find a club anywhere in Europe that are willing to pay the Brazilian’s wages. Louis van Gaal sat down with Anderson at the start of the season, stating that if his fitness both on and off the pitch didn’t improve then he would not wear the United shirt again. Since then United have been seeking to offload the midfielder, with this transfer window being the likely target, but believe it or not, Manchester United are paying Anderson £60,000-a-week and the player is not wanting to take a pay cut to move to any club, thus why clubs from around Europe are not willing to take on the Brazilian.
A huge amount of money is being made available for Louis van Gaal and Ed Woodward to secure deals, if and when, players become available. Target for the club being top 4 in the Premier League and qualify for next season’s Champions League, adding to the squad through-out the summer break and then targeting for clubs 21st league title for the 2015/16 season.
