Six time Premier League winner and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has confirmed that he will not retire at the end of the season, despite rumours of his career being due to finish; and that he would love to continue ‘living the dream’ at Old Trafford.
When asked by BT Sport about where his future lies, Rio said:
“Hopefully I’ll still be playing – I want to continue playing. I’m enjoying my football and my legs haven’t given way yet.
“I want to continue – whether that be at Manchester United or somewhere else, depending what the club want to do. Time will tell, we’ll have to wait until the end of the season.
“We’ll do what we did last season – wait until the end of the season, get it sorted out and speak to see where we’re at. Of course – that’s the dream. I’m living the dream and I’d like to continue [at United]. But we’ll have to wait and see.”
Manchester United have always negotiated new contracts with players over 30 at the end of each campaign, and that process should occur regarding Rio. Ferdinand has had a hell of a career so far, winning 6 Premier League titles, 2 Football League cups, 5 Community Shields, 1 Champions League and 1 FIFA Club World Cup.
In my opinion, Rio wanting to stay is a good thing for the club, it provides the youngsters like Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Johnny Evans someone to look up to with Nemanja Vidic on his way to Italy in the summer. Also, Rio has been a huge part of the clubs history, who would want to offload such a player that has been so successful with the club, for 12 years.
At 35 years of age, Rio could still have a few seasons in him; he’s always been fast, and still looks fast on the pitch currently. Also, his footwork is tremendous, he finds passes that centre backs rarely manage to find; and has brilliant experience when it comes to big games.
What do you think about Rio Ferdinand’s comments? Still have another year at the club?

Sorry but as much as rio has been the backbone of the united defence and done us proud it’s time for rio to leave united, if rio wants to play another season thats fine with me and best luck to him but it should not be and can not be with united. Good luck rio.
Maybe he can stay a year but he should not be playing too often. He should give chances to the youngsters and guide them. Play him at most once a month.
