Moorhouse, Obi-Martin, Kone, Harrison, Scanlon and Fletcher travel with United first-team vs Tottenham

Manchester United are set to face Tottenham Hotspur in a crucial Premier League clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with both sides desperate for a victory to salvage their underwhelming seasons. The Red Devils find themselves in the midst of an injury crisis, forcing manager Ruben Amorim to turn to the club’s talented youth academy for reinforcements.

The most significant blow to United’s squad comes in the form of Amad Diallo’s ankle ligament injury, sustained during a training session earlier this week. The Ivorian winger, who has been a standout performer for United this season with nine goals and seven assists, took to social media to express his disappointment:

“Extremely disappointed to be writing this message in such a crucial time of the season. Unfortunately, I will be out for some time with an injury. I will come back stronger than ever!! Time to support the boys from the outside. Still loads to play for.”

Amad’s absence is particularly felt given the January departures of Marcus Rashford and Antony, leaving United thin in attacking options. The injury crisis extends to the midfield, with Kobbie Mainoo ruled out for at least a couple of weeks, while Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer are also unavailable for the Spurs clash.

In response to these setbacks, Amorim has called upon several promising youngsters from United’s academy to bolster the squad. Exciting prospects such as Jack Moorhouse, Chido Obi-Martin, Sekou Kone, and Elyh Harrison have reportedly made the journey to London. Additionally, James Scanlon and Jack Fletcher have been added to the travelling party, as confirmed by journalist Mike McGrath.

Sekou Kone, in particular, has set tongues wagging with a cryptic Instagram post hinting at his inclusion in the 20-man matchday squad. The young striker’s potential involvement has sparked excitement among United supporters eager to catch a glimpse of the next generation of talent.

James Scanlon, primarily a winger but capable of playing as a number 10, has been turning heads with his performances for the youth teams. The 18-year-old recently played a crucial role in United’s under-18s’ emphatic 5-1 victory over Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup, contributing two goals to complement Chido Obi’s hat-trick.

Jack Fletcher, son of United legend Darren Fletcher, is another youngster who could feature against Spurs. The 17-year-old midfielder, who joined United from Manchester City in 2023, has been making waves in the academy and could be in line for his senior debut.

Interestingly, highly-rated left-back Harry Amass, who impressed during pre-season, is reportedly not part of the travelling squad. This omission may be due to the availability of Diogo Dalot and Patrick Dorgu, both capable of filling in at left wing-back.

As United prepare to face Tottenham, both clubs find themselves in unfamiliar territory, languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table. Spurs sit in 14th place with 27 points, while United are just two points and one place above them in 13th. The match presents an opportunity for both sides to kickstart their campaigns and potentially salvage European football for next season.

With the injury crisis forcing Amorim’s hand, United fans will be eager to see if any of the academy prospects can seize their opportunity and make a lasting impression on the first team. As the Red Devils look to overcome adversity and climb up the table, the integration of these young talents could prove to be a silver lining in an otherwise challenging season.
