Jan Mølby praises Manchester United's new signing Patrick Dorgu

Manchester United’s acquisition of Patrick Dorgu has sparked significant excitement, with the young Danish talent poised to play a pivotal role in Ruben Amorim’s tactical setup. Former Liverpool midfielder Jan Mølby, speaking to Danish publication Tipsbladet, has heaped praise on the 20-year-old and expressed optimism about his potential impact at Old Trafford.

Dorgu, who joined United from Serie A side Lecce during the January transfer window for a reported €35 million, arrives with high expectations. The Red Devils have struggled to find consistency in the left wing-back position, a critical role in Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 formation. Dorgu’s versatility and dynamic style of play make him an ideal candidate to address these issues.

The Danish international made his debut for Manchester United in an FA Cup clash against Leicester City last week. Despite being substituted at half-time, Dorgu left a strong impression in what was otherwise a lacklustre first-half performance from the team. Operating on the right flank, he showcased his blistering pace, physicality, and attacking intent, emerging as United’s most threatening player during his time on the pitch.

Reflecting on Dorgu’s arrival at Old Trafford, Mølby highlighted the significance of having three Danish players at one of the world’s most iconic football clubs—Dorgu joining compatriots Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Højlund. “We have to take our hats off to the fact we have three Danes in one of the world’s biggest football clubs. It’s incredible, right?” Mølby remarked.

Mølby also commended Manchester United’s recent approach to player recruitment, praising their focus on acquiring players with specific profiles that align with Amorim’s tactical vision. “As a Dane, it is incredibly exciting to have Dorgu at Manchester United. I really like his profile and the way Manchester United have started buying players,” he said.

One of Dorgu’s standout attributes is his ability to play on both flanks, a quality that Mølby believes will be instrumental in Amorim’s system. “Dorgu has also played on the right at Lecce so he can play on both sides,” Mølby explained. “One of the most important things for Amorim has been to control these wingbacks, so Dorgu really gets a key role on this Manchester United team.”

While Dorgu represents a bright future for United, Mølby also touched upon the uncertain futures of his fellow Danes at the club. Christian Eriksen, who has been an influential figure since joining United, may be nearing the end of his time at Old Trafford. Mølby speculated that Eriksen could remain in England if he departs this summer: “He likes being in England, and he has been to Brentford before. There should be plenty of clubs that would like to have Eriksen.”

As for Rasmus Højlund, Mølby acknowledged that the young striker has faced challenges in front of goal but expressed confidence in his long-term prospects at Manchester United. “Rasmus Højlund is a little harder to understand,” Mølby admitted. “It is clear that he is not scoring enough goals. No one doubts that.” However, he added: “I have no doubt that Højlund will stay at Manchester United after the summer, but of course he also has to deliver.”

With Patrick Dorgu now part of Manchester United’s ranks, fans will be eager to see how the talented youngster adapts to life in England and whether he can fulfil his potential under Ruben Amorim’s guidance. His debut may have been brief, but it offered glimpses of what could be an exciting future for both player and club as they continue their pursuit of domestic and European success.
