Ryan Giggs say's that Marcus Rashford "just doesn't look happy"

Marcus Rashford’s recent loan move to Aston Villa has sparked considerable discussion within the football community, with Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs offering his insights on how the England international can reignite his career.

Rashford’s departure from Old Trafford comes after a challenging period under new manager Ruben Amorim. Despite a promising start, scoring just 81 seconds into Amorim’s tenure and netting three goals in six appearances, Rashford found himself out of favour following the Manchester derby in mid-December.

Giggs, who was part of United’s coaching staff when Rashford burst onto the scene, emphasised the importance of rediscovering joy in his play. “Everyone will remember that smile and that enjoyment and freedom when he first came through – but he doesn’t look like that now,” Giggs remarked. “He’s a human being and he just doesn’t look happy. He looks like he’s got the world on his shoulders. He needs to play with that freedom and enjoyment that got him to where he is now.”

The Welshman’s comments highlight the psychological aspect of Rashford’s struggles, suggesting that a change of environment at Villa Park could be beneficial. Giggs added, “United need young players coming through, one of their own and it just felt that he was the next one. But for whatever reason, he’s had a decent career but he’s never gone on to be what I thought he would be.”

Giggs’ observations come in the wake of Roy Keane’s scepticism about whether Villa is the right place for Rashford to rediscover his hunger. This debate underscores the high stakes of Rashford’s loan move, with the 27-year-old facing a crucial period in his career.

The breakdown in relationship between Rashford and Amorim was evident in the manager’s comments about being unable to get through to the player regarding training and playing methods. This disconnect ultimately led to Rashford’s exclusion from the first team, with his last appearance for United coming on 12 December.

As Rashford prepares for a potential debut against Tottenham Hotspur, the football world will be watching closely. The move to Villa, under the guidance of Unai Emery, presents an opportunity for Rashford to prove his critics wrong and potentially revive his United career.

Giggs’ final words serve as both a reminder of Rashford’s potential and a call to action: “He just played with freedom, he loved the club and was a great lad but he just doesn’t look it now.” The coming months at Villa Park could be pivotal in determining whether Rashford can recapture the form and joy that once made him one of England’s most exciting prospects.
