Patrick Dorgu has officially spoken for the first time since joining Manchester United, sharing his excitement and ambitions in an interview with the club’s media team.
The 20-year-old, who recently made the move from Lecce, discussed his transition to Old Trafford, his playing style, and the significance of being handed the number 13 shirt. The Danish wing-back also expressed confidence in his ability to handle the immense pressure and expectations that come with representing one of the world’s most iconic football clubs.
Embracing the United Family
“It feels amazing to be part of the family,” Dorgu told Zarah Connolly of Manchester United’s media team. “I’m very excited to get going. I have heard about the incredible support, and I’m happy to be one of the players of United now.
“It’s a huge club. It’s the biggest club in England, and I’m really looking forward to working with the new manager [Ruben Amorim]. I feel the system suits me really well, so I’m excited to be here.”
Dorgu, known for his versatility and energy, believes he can make a significant impact at United. “I think I’m going to bring a lot of intensity and physique on the pitch,” he said. “And a lot of energy and running.”
Mental Strength Key to Success
The young defender also highlighted the importance of mental resilience in his career, particularly in adapting to life at a high-profile club like United.
“For me, it’s the most important thing because there’s a lot of talk about and around football,” Dorgu explained. “You really need to be strong outside of football as well. When I was in Italy, I lived alone. Of course, my family visited me a lot, but you need to be really good mentally to stay focused and concentrated on football.”
The Significance of the Number 13
Dorgu also revealed why he chose to wear the number 13 shirt at United, a number he has grown attached to during his career.
“I had it since I came to Lecce,” he said. “I think it’s good to keep going with what’s going well, so I think, yeah, number 13 is working really well for me at the moment.”
Ambitions at Old Trafford
With Manchester United still competing in multiple cup competitions and aiming to climb the Premier League table, Dorgu is eager to make an immediate impact.
“We’re still in a lot of cup competitions, so, of course, the aim is to win those games,” he said. “And, of course, to win as many Premier League games as possible. My ambition is just to play a lot of games, to be a great part of the United family, and to keep pushing and improving my potential.”
Dorgu’s arrival adds depth and dynamism to United’s squad, and fans will be eager to see how he adapts to the demands of English football. With his energy, versatility, and determined mindset, the young Dane could prove to be a valuable asset for Ruben Amorim’s side as they navigate a busy and challenging season.
