Antony, the Manchester United forward, has strongly addressed concerns over his future at the club, delivering a heartfelt interview in which he vehemently denies all allegations of abuse levelled against him.
The 23-year-old has come under scrutiny following accusations from his ex-partner, Gabriela Cavallin, who claims the player assaulted her multiple times throughout their relationship.
To complicate matters further, two other women have brought forth similar allegations against Antony. Both the Sao Paulo Civil Police and Greater Manchester Police have taken the matter seriously, commencing investigations into the alleged incidents in Brazil and Manchester.
Antony remains unyielding in his stance. He has consistently refuted claims of any violence towards Cavallin. Opening up in a recent television interview, he emphatically dismissed the abuse claims, stating, “It’s (his future at Man United) something that doesn’t cross my mind. I know the truth and it will come out. I know many are vilifying me, but the truth always prevails,” as he shared with SBT.
Manchester United, while acutely aware of the situation, have chosen not to suspend Antony. However, the Brazilian national team acted differently, excluding him from their most recent squad. Reflecting on this, Antony concedes that the decision hit hard, saying, “It was a tough pill to swallow, especially for something I firmly believe to be untrue.”
Discussing the emotional toll of the allegations, he explained, “I was with my mum when I learnt about my exclusion. It’s tough. The aspiration of donning the national team’s jersey is a daily dream for me.”
Domestic violence is a subject Antony speaks passionately against, affirming, “It’s completely indefensible, 100%. Having a mother and a sister, I could never wish such a thing upon them. I am confident that I’ve never resorted to violence towards a woman. The truth will become evident in time.”
He continues, expressing his determination to clear his name, “Those who’ve known me from my early days, when I had little to my name, recognise my character. They’ve seen the lengths I’ve gone to achieve my dreams. I want people to see the real me. I aspire to many things, including a return to the national squad. I want to prove that I’m innocent.”
Additionally, Antony alleges that Cavallin manipulated WhatsApp messages. He also addressed her gravest allegation, which pertains to an event supposedly occurring in a Manchester hotel earlier this year, firmly denying it.
