Manchester United’s young midfielder Hannibal Mejbri seems increasingly poised to remain at Old Trafford beyond the transfer deadline, bucking earlier assumptions that he’d be loaned out for another season.
Having previously spent a season with Birmingham City in the Championship, the 20-year-old has been the subject of speculation, with rumour mills suggesting another departure to gain more regular first-team experience in the 2023-24 campaign. Clubs like Sevilla, Anderlecht and certain undisclosed English teams have reportedly shown interest in acquiring the Tunisian’s services.
So far this term, manager Erik ten Hag has kept Hannibal on the fringes, omitting him from every matchday squad. However, credible sources from The Mirror reveal that the player has engaged in discussions with ten Hag and is now inclined to remain with the Red Devils for at least the first part of the current season.
Ten Hag has apparently assured Hannibal of first-team involvement in the jam-packed season ahead, as United juggle commitments across the Premier League, Champions League, EFL Cup, and FA Cup. Satisfied with ten Hag’s vision for his role, Hannibal is expected to compete for his spot within the team.
This decision comes despite the Red Devils bolstering their midfield with the addition of Mason Mount earlier in the transfer window. The imminent signing of Sofyan Amrabat, coupled with ten Hag’s recent confirmation that Scott McTominay isn’t going anywhere, will only intensify the contest for midfield slots.
Currently occupying the eighth spot in the Premier League table after a mixed start — two victories and a loss in their opening trio of matches — United also have a Champions League campaign to anticipate. They find themselves in a challenging Group A, sharing the stage with Bayern Munich, Copenhagen, and Galatasaray.
