Liverpool have reportedly engaged in discussions regarding a possible transfer for Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat.
The Reds faced a setback in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo, who has joined Chelsea, and their efforts to sign Southampton’s Romeo Lavia are expected to falter too, as he’s set to head to Stamford Bridge.
In dire need of midfield reinforcements before the transfer window closes, Jurgen Klopp’s team seems to be on the brink of securing a £16 million deal for Wataru Endo from Stuttgart.
Despite this, Liverpool is anticipated to secure another midfielder before the window’s closure. According to Sky Italia, Amrabat has emerged as a genuine target for the club.
Reportedly, intermediaries have facilitated discussions between Liverpool and Fiorentina to ascertain the potential cost of signing the Moroccan international before the deadline.
While Fiorentina is hesitant to part ways with the midfielder, his contract is set to expire next June. It’s believed that an offer in the vicinity of £30 million would prompt acceptance from the Italian club.
Manchester United has also been prominently linked with Amrabat lately. The 20-time English champions are also in the market for a holding midfielder before the window concludes.
Though Fred has already departed Old Trafford this summer, Manchester United reportedly needs to secure the departure of Donny van de Beek before pursuing Amrabat formally.
While Amrabat is said to be interested in joining Manchester United, his patience might be waning due to the situation, potentially allowing Liverpool to take the lead.
Liverpool has bolstered its midfield department with Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister this summer. Both players showcased their prowess in the recent 1-1 draw against Chelsea in the Premier League.
However, with the departures of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Liverpool requires additional reinforcements before the transfer window concludes.
Amrabat played a pivotal role in Morocco’s journey to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup. His impressive performances in Qatar had attracted significant interest, even from Barcelona in January.
Throughout the 2022-23 season, the midfielder excelled for Fiorentina, making 49 appearances across various competitions. His contributions aided Fiorentina in reaching the finals of the Europa Conference League and Coppa Italia.
Fiorentina’s Serie A season commences against Genoa on Saturday evening. Amidst speculation about his future, it remains to be seen whether Amrabat will be included in the lineup.
