Manchester United have reportedly initiated contact with Benjamin Pavard, who is being considered as a potential replacement for Harry Maguire, according to sources.
Earlier this week, there were widespread reports indicating that West Ham had submitted an improved bid of approximately £30 million for Maguire, an offer which Manchester United accepted. However, a definitive agreement for the transfer of the Englishman is still pending.
Regarding Maguire’s situation, West Ham manager David Moyes stated, “We’ve had a bid accepted from Manchester United, but while he’s not our player I’m not in a position to discuss him.”
It’s understood that Manchester United is aiming to secure a replacement before finalizing Maguire’s departure. Players like Edmond Tapsoba from Bayer Leverkusen, Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice, and Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich have all been linked as potential options.
Recent reports suggest that United has taken a step toward securing Pavard. Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Manchester United has initiated talks with Bayern Munich regarding Pavard.
However, despite Pavard’s reported desire to leave, Bayern Munich has yet to grant approval for the transfer to proceed.
Romano said in a Tweet: “Understand Manchester United have contacted Bayern for Benjamin Pavard deal #MUFC
“There’s still no green light from Bayern.
“But Pavard intention is clear: he wants to leave and try new chapter.
“Pavard won’t sign new deal at Bayern and current one expires in June 2024.”
