Former Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has suggested that Jose Mourinho has something up his sleeve ahead of the start of the upcoming campaign. The LA Galaxy forward, who moved to the MLS in March of this year, met up with his former colleagues this in Los Angeles during one of United’s training sessions on their current US tour, and offered the following tease on on the clubs Instagram account:
“Guess who is back watching United train? I see a lot of quality, but not quality like me but that’s okay [laughs]! It is great to see the guys, to see them happy and to see them training good. Be ready for this season because something special will happen and I think the boss has something going on. We will keep that a secret! Enjoy the season, I wish you all the best and happiness.”
Given that a large chunk of the club’s fanbase is currently less-than satisfied with the club’s lack of transfer business as the Premier League season approaches, Ibrahimovic’s comments offer a timely distraction. It is coming up to Zlatan’s birthday, and no doubt team-mates will be searching for rude birthday cards to send to the legend who is always up for a laugh at the training ground. Despite the club being linked with Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale and Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic at points during this summer, little has materialised in terms of concrete interest, let alone bids, so the Swede’s comment suggests that United are working on something of note, presumably leaked to him by Mourinho.
The Portuguese’s manner so far on tour has been somewhat negative, with the Portuguese bemoaning the absence of his World Cup stars and the impending fixture list, that sees United open the Premier League season at home to Leicester City on August 10th. Mourinho also suggested that he was unclear on whether United were even planning to bring in another player prior to the transfer window closing, so any news or developments in terms of the purchase of a new player will surely raise his spirits somewhat.
