Manchester United have revealed the players who will form their women’s team for the upcoming season, their first under new head coach Casey Stoney. As revealed by the club on Friday, former Liverpool and England international defender Stoney has chosen a youthful side for the impending campaign:
“We’ve gone young, we’ve gone exciting, we’ve gone entertaining,” said Stoney. “I’m more than aware that we’re bringing 21 strangers together but I’m really excited about the squad and the future of this team.”
The team is as follows:

13 – Emily Ramsey
22 – Fran Bentley

Players of note include Alex Greenwood, who, like Stoney, has turned out for both Liverpool and England in her career. Her new coach had this to say: “Signing Alex was very significant for us. She is an experienced international and has one of the best left foots in the game that will be vital to the way we want to play.”
Siobhan Chamberlain, another player with huge international experience and who featured for England in both the last World Cup and European Championship will likely occupy the no.1 slot, with Stoney offering: “Siobhan’s experience will be vital with the youthful look of our squad. A real team player and a very driven individual. The thinker of the team.”
United have also been able to bring back Katie Zelen, Naomi Hartley and Emily Ramsey to the club, who were all forced to leave after reaching 17 with no senior professional team in place to keep them. Stoney appears to have crafted an exciting side for her debut campaign in the Women’s Super League 2, and the club’s fans will no doubt be excited to see how they perform.
