Manchester United have expressed “significant interest” in securing the services of Fulham youngster Ryan Sessegnon this summer, according to reports.
The youngster, who can play anywhere down the left hand side, emerged on Jose Mourinho’s radar last year after he made his Championship debut aged 16 against Leeds United before becoming the youngest ever player to score in the division with a goal against Cardiff City. He went on to assert himself on Slaviša Jokanović’s line-up throughout the 2016/17 campaign, making 30 appearances and claiming seven goals in total before starring for the England U19s in their triumphant European Championship campaign in Georgia, during which he became joint top scorer with three goals.
Sessegnon impressed many last season with his direct, tenacious approach on the left hand side, both disciplined going back and instinctive in the box, and has since been handed his first professional contract at Craven Cottage. Tottenham Hotspur have been tracking the youngster for some time as well but will, according to sources at Sky Sports, face competition from Mourinho in pursuit of his signature.
United would be willing to loan Sessegnon straight back to West London once a deal was completed to let the youngster continue his footballing education with Fulham. The 17-year-old is valued at around £25m by the club but owners Shahid Khan and his son Tony, having handed the youngster a new contract just a few months ago, are opposed to letting him leave under any circumstances at this given time.
