Report: Zlatan Ibrahimovic to sign new Man Utd contract this week

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will agree a new contract with Manchester United before the transfer window closes after agreeing to spend another season at Old Trafford, according to reports.

The big Swede claimed 28 goals in all competitions at Old Trafford last season before seeing his campaign cut short by a knee ligament injury against Anderlecht in April that required surgery. He was officially released from the club in June but was given permission to use the facilities at Carrington as part of his rehabilitation process.

He has attracted interest from AC Milan and LA Galaxy, but Jose Mourinho revealed earlier this month that talks were underway with the 35-year-old over a new short term deal once he returns to action in January. Some reports have claimed that he will be offered a coaching role at United once he decides to retire from playing.

And according to ESPN‘s Rob Mitten, Zlatan could sign a new contract with United – set to have reduced terms compared to the one he signed when moving from Paris Saint Germain – as early as this week. The deadline for registering players ends on August 31, and with the 35-year-old targeting a return before January the club clearly feel as if bringing him back on the books at Old Trafford in case he can play during a busy Christmas period makes sense.

Ibrahimovic, at the same time, has reminded the watching world of his raw power – even during a period of rehabilitation – with a video showing him unleashing some spectacular karate kicks, teasing supporters with the question: “which knee?”
