Jose Mourinho has held several meetings with Barcelona attacking midfielder Arda Turan ahead of a potential £24m move to Old Trafford over the next couple of weeks, according to reports from Turkey.
The 30-year-old moved to Atletico Madrid back in 2011 from Galatasaray and quickly became an integral aspect of Diego Simeone’s bullish side that stormed to La Liga success and the Champions League final in 2014, often featuring as an inverted wide player linking up with the likes of Gabi and Koke.
He made 178 appearances in total, claiming 22 goals, before moving to Barcelona in the summer of 2015. And despite claiming 13 goals in 30 appearances at under Luis Enrique last season – usually as a second string option out wide when one of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez aren’t available – he has failed to endear himself to supporters, lacking the technical fluidity and craft moving forward demanded by the Camp Nou faithful.
But according to AS reporter Özgür Sancar, Mourinho holds the 30-year-old – known for his tactical discipline, astuteness on the ball and tenacity – in high esteem and has spoke with him “on many occasions” over a potential move to Old Trafford this summer.
