Timothy Fosu-Mensah has officially joined Crystal Palace on loan from Manchester United for the 2017/18 campaign.
The 19-year-old, who arrived from Ajax in 2014, made his senior debut back in February 2016 and went on to impress with his committed, athletic style in all positions across the defence under Louis van Gaal. He was a constant presence in the first team last season, impressing Jose Mourinho enough to receive a lucrative four year contract in October, but could only manage four starts in total.
Frank de Boer knows the teenager well after overseeing his move to Old Trafford during his six year stint at the Amsterdam club and, since taking over from Sam Allardyce in June, has expressed a desire to bring a right-back to Selhurst Park.
The Dutchman excelled throughout pre-season, impressing in games against Real Madrid and Valerenga, and the club has confirmed that Fosu-Mensah – who left supporters with a powerful goodbye message after the move was announced – will join Palace for a season. He has demonstrated on several occasions a capacity for matching opponents physically at the highest level and receive some invaluable experience playing regular Premier League football.
