According to reports, Ander Herrera could be set to extend his stay at Manchester United. The Sun state that the Spaniard, purchased in the summer of 2014 from Athletic Bilbao has a little under 18 months left on his 4-year deal, but the club and manager Jose Mourinho are keen to tie Herrera down by activating a one-year extension on his current contract.
The deal, which would see Herrera tied to the club until 2019, would be just reward after a season in which the former Real Zaragoza midfielder has become an indispensable part of Mourinho’s plans. Herrera has started 35 games for the Portuguese this season, which already eclipses the 31 that he played under Louis van Gaal in his first year in English football, and, fitness permitting, he should overtake the 41 appearances that he registered the following year.
A firm fan’s favourite, Herrera has scored 14 goals for the club since leaving Spain.
