This could finally be the weekend that Manchester United move up the Premier League table despite having been unbeaten in the competition since October. The 4-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge was the last time that Jose Mourinho’s team were bested, but due to a series of draws and the form of their rivals, United could end the weekend in fourth, if results go their way.
First and foremost, they must get the better of Watford at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets registered a shock 3-1 win at Vicarage Road in September when the sides met earlier this season, and Mourinho will be keen to see his side gain a far more positive result. With that in mind, here’s how we think his team will look:
David De Gea will remain in goal, of course, but there could be some changes directly ahead of him. If Phil Jones is fit, expect him to line-up alongside Marcos Rojo with Matteo Darmian and Antonio Valencia either side of them.
In midfield, Michael Carrick should return in midfield alongside Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba after the former England midfielder was rested against Leicester City last weekend.
Up front, Mourinho might end up sticking with the trio of Juan Mata, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Juan Mata. Given that all three scored against the champions on Sunday, he might be tempted to leave his attack untouched.
