Manchester United enjoyed a very successful summer transfer window after Jose Mourinho took over last May. Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have all turned out to be astute purchases during their time at Old Trafford so far, but one of the Portuguese’s former charges has suggested that he might have joined them last summer.
Chelsea forward Willian, speaking to Globo Esporte in quotes carried by Sky Sports, has suggested that Manchester United were interested in his services after his former boss had taken over at Old Trafford. When asked about interest from other clubs, Willian said:
“Concrete, I do not know. But there was interest, yes. From Manchester United, because Mourinho is there too.
“From other clubs I do not know, but there are always some things on the internet. But I’m glad to hear that there are clubs that admire my work.”
