Smalling backs Manchester United to reach top four

Manchester United snapped a run of three consecutive Premier League draws on Sunday thanks to a 0-3 win away at reigning champions Leicester City. Goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Juan Mata gave Jose Mourinho’s side a comfortable victory at the King Power Stadium, and Chris Smalling, who captained the side, believes that United are well-placed to make an assault on the top four.

Speaking to reporters after the game, the England defender had this to say: “We’ve had a few opportunities to be able to close that gap and this time we took our opportunity and played really well, so we need to build on this.

“Obviously, we’ve got a home game next (against Watford) so if we can get the three points we can really do some chasing. I think after this game and the performance we can say that it’s high but until we get on a good consistent winning run I think it can get even better.”
