Luke Shaw’s agent has moved to deny claims that Manchester United could sell his client this coming summer. The Independent reported this week that Jose Mourinho had grown frustrated with the former Southampton defender’s lack of development, along with his willingness to adapt to the Portuguese’s plans for the team, but Jonathan Barnett insists that the possibility of Shaw moving away from Old Trafford is remote.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Barnett said:
“He is happy at the club. Manchester United are very happy with him and he’s very happy at Manchester United.”
This will be of some comfort to fans who still harbour expectations of the left back becoming a permanent fixture at United. After a promising start to the 2015/16 season, a double leg-break suffered against PSV Eindhoven called a halt to Shaw’s career at the club, and having worked his way back to fitness last summer, he’s been unable to force a way into Mourinho’s plans since the former Chelsea boss took over. Still, given Shaw’s age (21), there’s clearly plenty of time for the defender to improve and impress.
