Manchester United outcast Memphis Depay’s exit from the club appears imminent, with several publications indicating that a deal to take the Dutch international to Lyon is essentially agreed.
According to The Guardian, a fee of around £14.7m has been accepted by United, with potential add-ons making sure the fee gets as close to the £25m that was paid to PSV Eindhoven for his services in 2015 as possible. The deal also includes a buy-back option, and a sell-on clause, so should Lyon decide to dispose of his services in the future, United will see a percentage of that transfer fee.
It’s a wise move for all parties; United get a decent price for a player that has fallen way short of their expectations, Memphis gets to kickstart his career in a fresh environment and Lyon get an exciting, young attacking talent who will be desperate to prove himself.
