After Morgan Schneiderlin’s transfer from Manchester United to Everton, United fans have been waiting for one more exit in this January transfer window. Memphis Depay’s career at Old Trafford appears to be over, with the Dutchman the subject of several bids from Ligue 1 club Lyon, according to BBC Sport.
Whilst news of Lyon’s bids for Depay isn’t a surprise, the report suggests that a deal to take the former PSV Eindhoven forward to France should be completed by the end of this current transfer window. It also states that Lyon have made three bids, the latest of which amounted to £14.8m and fell short of United’s valuation for the player, but Lyon reportedly ‘hopeful’ that a deal can be done.
Depay has essentially been an outcast at United for the last few months, and is behind almost every single forward that the club in Jose Mourinho’s pecking order. With so many players ahead of him, it makes sense for the Dutchman to leave, and try and kickstart his career somewhere else. He clearly has the talent to succeed, but doubts over his application have hounded his time at United, and he will likely leave as a talent that was frustratingly unfulfilled.
