It’s no surprise to learn that other teams have expressed interest in Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s services over the years. During his three years at Borussia Dortmund, the Armenian turned into one of the Bundesliga’s most dangerous players, and was named the league’s best player in his final season there. Borussia Dortmund themselves are looking to go far in this seasons Champions League, they are favourites to beat Benfica away next month as discussed with the John Pentin, editor of betting tips site www.bettingtips4you.com that they are a good priced 13/10 for the win.
His move in the summer of 2016 to Manchester United hasn’t been the smoothest experience, but Mkhitaryan has proven his quality in the last few months and has started to become a key part of Jose Mourinho’s United side.
But it could have been so different, according to a report in Newsweek. Mkhitaryan was close to joining bitter rivals Liverpool in 2013, when the player was at Shaktar Donetsk. Brendan Rodgers tried to tempt him to the Merseyside club, but ironically, it was now-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp who convinced Mkhitaryan to choose Dortmund instead:
“Two weeks later, Jurgen Klopp broke off his holiday on an island next to Denmark to come and see me in Dortmund. I knew he had a good reputation for working with younger players and, after we met, I felt more comfortable to sign for Dortmund. I think I made the right decision.”
Funny how things work out. Klopp would likely love someone of Mkhitaryan’s calibre and quality in his set-up at Anfield now, but he’s ended up at Old Trafford, a move that the player himself seems to have finally adjusted to after a tough start to this current season.
