Juan Mata knows all about being managed by Jose Mourinho, having worked with the Portuguese during their time at Chelsea in 2013. The Spaniard, who has been with the club for three years since leaving Stamford Bridge due to a lack of game time under the same manager, has proven his abilities and cemented a place in Mourinho’s plans this season, and has spoken openly to ESPN about the change in his boss:
“He has changed. It is a different environment, it is a different club and squad. You always play depending on the different players you have.”
“With this club, it has always been known that they play one kind of football — which is attacking football and creating chances. We are doing that. He is happy with the performances.
Mata hasn’t had the most prosperous stage of his career at Old Trafford, with only an FA Cup medal to show for his three years at the club, but he seems upbeat about the future with his team challenging on four fronts this season.
“In terms of results, this is the best I have known at Manchester United. In terms of the confidence and the mentality we are showing, yes, it is also the best time since I have been here.”
