Whilst there’s not much in the way of concrete information to support the suggestion that Patrice Evra could make a sensational return to Manchester United during the January transfer window, that doesn’t stop it being an incredibly exciting proposition for the club’s fans.
The Frenchman, left out of Juventus’ squad to face Bologna this weekend is said to be considering his future, according to the club’s chief. The following quotes, provided by the Daily Star, certainly make it seem like the 35-year old’s time with the Bianconeri is coming to an end:
“Evra was not called up to the squad because he’s thinking about his future. It’s only right he’s taking a moment to reflect, as his contract will expire in June, he is 35 going towards 36.”
Given that Evra has yet to come out and publicly dismiss the idea of a return to United, there remains a chance, especially with the club’s issues at left back, that the man dubbed ‘Uncle Pat’ by compatriot and United midfielder Paul Popba could make a return to the club that he left in the summer of 2014. Given his enduring popularity at Old Trafford, it’s an attractive suggestion, but we’ll have to wait and see.
