Despite Chris Smalling’s incredible start to the season, the centre back situation at Manchester Untied is still not ideal.
With Phil Jones still recovering from injury, Daley Blind not being physical enough and, Marcos Rojo being required at left back, the centre back position is not strong enough to challenge for the title.
Unless he pulls off a Smalling, Phil Jones still is not good enough to start at centre back for Manchester United, and neither is Daley Blind. Preferably, United would sign a strong and experienced central defender in January.
United have been linked to a couple of defenders since the close of the transfer window, but it’s now being reported that the Red Devils have already missed out on one of their targets.
Top defensive prospect, Aymeric Laporte, of Athletic Bilbao, has already agreed to transfer to Barcelona next summer, according to reports.
It is said that Barça have agreed a fee of £35 million for the 21 year old Frenchman and that he’ll join the club next season.
Laporte has already made 117 appearances for his club and is considered one of the top young defensive prospects in Europe.
Luckily, Manchester United are still heavily linked to FC Porto’s versatile defender, Bruno Martins Indi, who Louis van Gaal knows very well.
