Newcastle United signed Ayoze Pérez from CD Tenerife at the start of the 2014/15 season for £1.4 million. At the time, he was a relatively unknown 20 year old Spanish striker from a mid table Segunda División team.
Pérez had his breakthrough in the season prior to his transfer to the Premier League. He got 7 assists and scored 16 goals for Tenerife, whilst showing off his incredible skill, pace and vision.
At Newcastle, the Spaniard started off with a few sub-ins, but quickly secured his place in the starting line up. He featured in 36 of the Magpie’s 38 Prem games last season, scoring 7 times in his debut Premier League campaign.
New manager Steve McLaren made 3 attack minded signings who Ayoze Pérez would compete with but, the tricky forward has managed to weave his way back into the starting line up.
In his 6 Prem games so far, the 22 year old has a goal and an assist, both of which came in Newcastle’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea.
The Newcastle Chronicle has reported that Manchester United have sent scouts on multiple occasions to monitor Ayoze Pérez, and appear keen to acquire the Spaniard.
Pérez is able to play on either wing, as a striker or a centre forward. As Manchester United need a back up striker who is Premier League ready, in case Anthony Martial picks up an injury.
