The goalkeeping situation at Manchester United is quite possibly the strongest that it has ever been. United’s starting keeper, David De Gea, is backed up by: Argentina’s first choice goalie, Sergio Romero; then top young prospect, Sam Johnstone and; Ex-Barcelona, and Champions League winner, Víctor Valdés.
But Louis van Gaal is looking into adding to his net minding roster with the addition of Jordan Pickford, from Sunderland.
The 21 year old Englishman is currently on loan to Preston North End, the same club that Sam Johnstone enjoyed a successful year at last season.
It’s been heavily reported that the Red Devils boss wants rid of Valdés but Johnstone’s future has also come into question. Towards the end of the summer window there was much debate over whether or not he would go on loan or be sold. In the end neither occurred.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Sam Johnstone had this to say:
“I have been at this club since I was 10 years old so you have to look at it, speak to the right people and see what the club want from me.”
“If they tell me it is time to move on then it is time to move on, but I will keep working hard here and impressing the manager.”
The 6’ tall Pickford has played every minute of Preston’s season so far and has managed to keep 4 clean sheets in these 13 appearances.
