Phil Jones unfortunately picked up an injury just days before the start of the season, and has had to sit on the sideline to recover from a minor thrombosis.
In the last 4 games, Jones has managed to get 3 substitute appearances, in 3 different competitions, to begin his road back to first team contention.
Louis van Gaal, despite saying that he would rather his players were rested instead of played in the upcoming internationals, wants Phil Jones to make the field for England.
Speaking to MUTV, the Manchester United manager had this to say:
“I think it’s always an honour to play for your country,”
“And, in our build-up of his condition in the games, he needs match rhythm, so I shall be very pleased when he plays for England because that helps him to get minutes for Manchester United. That’s important.”
The Manchester United defender has said that he hopes to feature for England in the upcoming Euros but, his primary target is to get fit for Manchester United.
Also chatting to MUTV, Jonesy said this:
“Playing for England is a huge honour, whenever you’re selected, and I want to be part of the squad and part of the Euros, but I know I have to maintain a good level of form and fitness for United to be able to do that,”
“That’s my short-term focus.”
England play Estonia, at Wembley, tomorrow evening.
