This is some scary news for the Old Trafford Faithful, no Rooney means that the only striker in the squad is the brand new 19 year old signing, Anthony Martial.
But it could yet get worse. Van Gaal seems to believe that Marouane Fellaini is a suitable striker for Manchester United and he’s said that he wants to ease Martial into the side.
As it stands, United look to start either: a new 19 year old; a clumsy midfielder or; play without a striker, Spanish style in a False 9 formation.
In such a massive game, a player of Rooney’s talents and style is needed to get the best of United’s nemesis.
