Last season, Manchester United’s local rivals, Manchester City, signed FC Porto’s defender Eliaquim Mangala for £28 million.
At the time of the sale, the Frenchman was only 23 years old and so knows a bit about what Anthony Martial is going through at United.
Being quite young, having a very high price tag and coming to the best league in the world was something that Mangala struggled with in his first season with City.
Speaking about fellow countryman, Mangala warns Martial:
“It is up to him to do well on the pitch,”
“The first season can be tough. The Premier League is a tough one – totally different and very difficult. I hope he will be well received.”
“I do not think that the amount of the transfer would be a problem,” Martial’s French compatriot continued. “Obviously no one will look at him the same way anymore.”
“United paid a lot of money for him. Let’s see how he and people around him like the club or his family, deals with it, that’s important. He must focus only on his football.”
Mangala has featured in every minute of City’s amazing start to the Premier League season. They’re already 8 points clear of defending champions Chelsea.
