David De Gea wants to be his country’s first choice keeper, which was one of the driving forces behind him wanting the Real Madrid move. If you want to play for Spain you usually have to play for either Madrid or Barça to be considered.
Spain’s coach Vicente del Bosque has stated that De Gea will probably not join Spain’s Euros side if he doesn’t play for Manchester United this season.
With his contract expiring next season, it’s quite unlikely that van Gaal would play hi over Sergio Romero without a new contract. The Dutch coach may as well keep playing his future first choice keeper instead of improving one that’s going to leave for free anyway.
Speaking to Marca, del Bosque has stated that:
“If he doesn’t play then it’s very difficult he will come.”
If De Gea wants to achieve his dream of being España número uno, then he’ll need to sign a new contract for Manchester United, and be their top keeper once again.
