Ángel Di María signed for Manchester United for a UK record transfer fee of £59.7 million. Being one of the best wingers in the world, coming off of a fantastic World Cup, he looked to be well worth the price tag.
Upon arriving he hit the ground running, he had a great start playing in his favoured left wing position, scored 3 fantastic Premier League goals, and looked like the superstar worthy of the price tag.
Then he sustained a minor injury and struggled to regain his place in the line up, with Ashley Young performing well. Speaking to ESPN Di María spoke of his United experience and his reasons for leaving:
“Van Gaal has his philosophy and it is one of the reasons why I wanted to leave Manchester United.”
“I made a very good start and then I got injured. Things weren’t quite working for me and Van Gaal changed my position. It’s difficult to adapt to Van Gaal. I had a number of flare ups with him.”
Ángel Di María played 32 games for the Red Devils, scoring 4 goals and got 12 assists, coming joint 3rd with 10 assists in the Premier League, after having relatively little game time.
This summer he moved to Paris Saint-Germain for£44 million.
