Smalling Reveals Massive Disappointment in Missed Opportunity

The Manchester United – Newcastle game ended 0-0 today. Despite United throwing everything at the Newcastle defence, bombarding them with crosses, a goal could not be scored.

Coloccini and Krul put in particularly good performances for Newcastle to stop the United attack from hitting the back of the net.

The United attacker that came the closest was Chris Smalling. A towering header from the Englishman found its way over the defence only to hit the post. It was the closest United effort of the game and could have easily been the winner, being that it was so late in the game.

In an interview with MUTV, Smalling said:

“It’s massively disappointing … We’ve come in and it’s like you’ve lost a game, it’s definitely two points dropped.”

The 25 year old, who put in another stellar defensive performance, claims that despite the game feeling like a loss, the team looks forward to the second leg against Club Brugge in midweek:

“We’re looking forward to it … To get back at it. The last two performances have been a big improvement and I think the fact there’s so much riding on that game, we’ll go there and create the chances like today and get a comfortable win.”

Chris Smalling has played a key role in each of Manchester United’s 3 Premier League games, in which they have not conceded a single goal.

Enjoy that? Give it a share!
