Andreas Pereira vs Club America
Watching United’s average pre-season match last night, against Club America, the new signing played well, linking, or at least attempting to link up well with the other United players. But one player stood out.
At half time, Louis Van Gaal changed the entire XI, which brought 19 year old Andreas Pereira to left wing. Within a minute of Club America kicking off, Pereira had the ball at his feet, whizzed passed a defender and got a great cross into the box, unfortunately Wilson lacked commitment to get on the end of it.
He continued to shine over the second half, here are his more notable actions through the game.
45′ – Pereira beats the opposition and whips in a great cross toward Wilson.
48′ – He runs into the box, takes the ball down well from a cross, puts on a great shimmy to fool the defenceman into going the wrong way, then drags a sot just past the far post. Had the keeper beaten.
50′ – Bit of a poorly timed tackle by the young winger.
52′ – Pereira dances out side the box, pulls the ball back and puts a great cross through his two markers. The cross temptingly whizzes across the face of goal, Januzaj doesn’t have the stones to put his head on it. Wilson wasn’t quick enough to react to the ball in.
55′ – Ball comes to his feet. He holds up, looks about. Two Club Americans come in with pressure. He rolls it through the two of them but is fouled.
57′ – Sets an excellent through ball between the defenders, allowing Januzaj a chance in the box. Januzaj’s touch is too heavy on the super slick surface and he losses the ball.
61′ – United win a corner, Pereira puts a high and dipping ball towards the back post, Smalling has to work for it, gets his head on it, but the position was too poor for anything to come from the header.
68′ – Pereira recovers possesion by bringing the ball down for mid-air, to his feet where he shakes off two aggressors, but takes a tackle and is fouled.
71′ – Club America are going in hard and nasty on Andreas, they can’t handle him.
77′ – Herrera plays into the box, plays it wide to Pereira who’s in a great possession, could shoot but keeper’s in a good position. Instead he opts to dink the ball over the player rabble in the box to an incoming player who the cameras couldn’t see in their shot. Showed great vision.
83′ – Andreas works back well to defend an incoming attack, teams up well once again with Blackett but this time defensively.
83′ – Pereira takes another strong tackle but once again just gets up, dusts himself and carries on.
He put up a shinning performance in an otherwise dull second half. Team mates Schweinsteiger and Blackett also put a good shift in but it was Pereira who impressed the most.
A Bit Of Background
Andrea was born in Belgium and is son of a former professional Brazilian footballer. He has dual nationality of Belgium and Brazil. At aged 9 he signed for PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands. By age 15 he was wanted by many of Europe’s elite clubs. But it was the direct intervention of Sir Alex Ferguson into negotiations which convinced the youngster to come to Old Trafford.
United signed him for £105,000* but had to wait for him to become 16 due to transfer restrictions. He officially became a Red Devil on 01/01/12. He joins other great players like Ruud Van Nistelrroy, Jaap Stam and Ji-Sung Park in moving from PSV to United.
Pereira At Manchester
He played his way through the youth teams, playing regularly and getting some goals and assists. He then made his United debut as a sub last season in the humiliating defeat to MK Dons in the League Cup, but made his Premier League debut, again as a sub, against Spurs in a 3-0 victory.
At the end of last season he won Manchester United’s 2014/15 Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year Award. He joins the likes of: Nicky Butt; John O’shea; Darren Fletcher; Giuseppe Rossi and; Adnan Januzaj.
His 14/15 season ended with him helping Brazil U20’s reach the FIFA U20 World Cup final where they lost 2-1 to Serbia. However Pereira scored for Brazil, to make the game 1-1. His goal was awesome, he takes the ball through 3 players, gets into the box, pulls the ball to the side then slots it past the keeper, despite the goalie getting his body on it.
Andreas Pereira signed a new contract which keeps him at Old Trafford until June 2018. This was despite reports that ex-team mate, Paul Pogba, telling him about how good it has been to join Juventus. It is imperative not only for United to keep the wonderkid, but to also give him plenty of first team opportunities.
