Tom Cleverley admitted to Sky Sports on Friday that his own fans contributed to his deadline day departure, and that his Manchester United career is over.
With his contract up for renewal at the end of the year, the youth team graduate feels his time at Old Trafford has come to an end.
He said: “I am happy to get away from some of the negativity. Whenever you are not winning trophies at Man United, the players are going to get some stick.” He also told reporters that manager Louis Van Gaal had made it clear that he was not part of the rebuilding process.
Last season it was manager David Moyes that bore the brunt of the disgruntled fans’ frustration. Whilst maintaining support from those inside the stadium, some saw fit to demand Moyes’ resignation.
Any supporter that can see further than the trophy cabinet will know this decline has been a long process. They will also know that no single individual is to blame.
