Manchester United have this evening confirmed that Argentinian defender, Marcos Rojo, has joined the club from Sporting Lisbon, in a deal worth €20m.
The defender, who can play as either a Centre Back or a Left Back, has today signed a 5-year deal, after impressing for his country in this summers World Cup on their journey to the final.
Speaking to the club website, Rojo said:
It is such an honour to say that I now play for Manchester United. The Premier League is the most exciting league in the world and to have the chance to play in it for the world’s biggest club is a dream for me. I am young and am very keen to continue to learn the game, so playing for such an experienced technical coach as Louis van Gaal is a fantastic opportunity for me. I have joined United to work hard with my team-mates to win trophies and I know that the manager shares that ambition.
Rojo could go straight into the squad to face Sunderland on Sunday as we try to bounce back from last weekends opening day defeat to Swansea. Rojo has also been given Rio Ferdinands former shirt, #5.
As part of the deal, Portuguese winger Nani has gone the opposite way, rejoining his former club on a season long loan. It is believed that United will be paying all of his €6m wages whilst at Sporting Lisbon.
