Manchester United are set to complete the signing of Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo within the next 24-hours, in a £16million deal, with Luis Nani going the other way on loan for the 2014/15 season.
Argentinian journalists were first to report on the deal from Manchester United for Marcos Rojo, reporting that after a troublesome time over the past week, Rojo is all set to travel to Manchester on Tuesday to finalise personal terms and be a United player before the clubs next match, which is against Sunderland on Sunday afternoon.
Marcos Rojo had refused to travel to a friendly match for Sporting Lisbon last Saturday afternoon, and had since not trained with his fellow team-mates until Monday morning.
The Argentinean defender is reportedly set for his medical on Tuesday in Manchester, with main fitness and trial being taken place at the AoN Training Ground, before bloods and stats are done at Bridgewater Hospital.
The defence of Manchester United is one that needs to be addressed, especially after the clubs 2-1 defeat to Swansea City at Old Trafford.
Luis Nani is set to move to Sporting Lisbon in this deal, moving on a loan move with an eye to buy after the 2014/15 season. Do we think that Marcos Rojo, a World Cup finalist is good enough for United’s back line? Is Ed Woodward finally getting the deals done?

Jury’s out on Ed but Rojo is a solid signing if it happens! He will add some bite (not literally I hope) to a fairly timid defense.
he is perfect addition man utd
Let’s land one more central defender of class and another central midfielder of equal value and I’ll get back to you.
Van Gaal is simply being pushed into making upgrades that should have been made over the last 3 – 4 years to compensate for the dearth of world class talent in the middle of the pitch and as long term replacements for Vidic and Ferdinand. Thanks to Woodward’s dithering and inexperience United were forced into paying over the odds last year for two players that were never quite the right fit for the team. While they got a head start this season with Herrara and Shaw, since then they’ve painted themselves into a corner again by leaving it late and having to deal with the fallout from Woodward’s financial boastfulness and the nightmares he must have given Van Gaal with his statement to the effect that the club were prepared to break the world transfer record – wonder how much that’s worked to the team’s benefit in negotiations for every player they’ve been interested in since?
The signs are that they will go for the knee-jerk reaction, especially after last weekend’s loss, and throw out ridiculous money in a desperate attempt to bring players in at the last minute.
It wasn’t Fergie’s retirement that hit the club hardest. The reality is that it was David Gill’s departure, because it is his astute negotiating talent and widespread contacts that the club is sorely in need of right now.
Very good points!
While marcos Rojo is a good that United neended but is not enough for the Team, United most sign at least more 5 players in order to win titlle. Great players BIG plyers Di Maria, Marco Reus, D’bling, Hummales, Vidal, and cuaderado.
Rojo is a solid signing. He has good pace and played really well in the World Cup. Man U needs more signings but more importantly they need to get healthy. There’s some good youth on the squad and they should get better over time.
he will be a good addition 2 man utd defence line
thanks 4 Ed’ Woodword 4 working had on diz transfer market. Rojo is a good player but we still need a df midfielder like vidal, strootman, or guarin. thanks 4 LvG
Van Gaal should not rush into buying players if they are not suited to his style.
I’d like to see him work his magic first with the current players.
As for wining the title we shouldn’t expect it every year . Current competition is very difficult .
Go united .
Good signing but not near enough. still need another defensive back, a solid midfielder, at least one winger but two would be out of this world especially if they are Cuadrada and di Maria. I’m afraid Young and Valencia are no where in sight for United’s standards. Maybe in the next transfer window we should know if another striker is really needed and the same could be said for right fullback. I can’t say I’m happy with Ed Woodward and best he stays on the commercial side with a genuine Director of Football coming in who has world class qualifications.
