David Moyes and Manchester United have given Wayne Rooney the weekend off to not risk the recurrence of a groin injury as the remainder of the squad travel down to Norwich for their Saturday afternoon kick-off in the Barclays Premier League.
Rooney, who has undoubtedly been Manchester United’s player of the season thus far was given the weekend off to spend time with his family and with Tottenham Hotspur in mind, which is United’s next fixture on New Years Day.
Rooney’s wonderful volley against Hull City (as shown above) was his 150th goal for Manchester United and no doubt the club will miss him against Norwich City, but with United’s leading goalscorer missing it will give the chance for Hernandez, Welbeck or Kagawa to impress David Moyes at Carrow Road.
Rooney himself said after the Hull City victory that he feels United are slowly getting back to some quality performances.
He said:
“I think we had some poor results at the start of the season but we are starting to show some real quality.
“In the last few weeks we are having a go. We are working hard, we are fighting for each other and we are ready for the challenge.
“Hopefully, we can surprise a few people.”
Wayne Rooney is expected to make a return for Manchester United on New Years Day at Old Trafford against Tottenham Hotspur.
