Today, Ander Herrera has claimed that there was no agreement to join Manchester United during the summer transfer window.
The media and fans have been critical of the way Manchester United dealt with the Herrera transfer situation after it seemed he had all but signed for the Premier League Champions, but Herrera has confirmed there was no official agreement.
Ander said in a press conference on Wednesday afternoon that he is more than happy at Athletic Bilbao but would of course, listen to any offers that come in from clubs.
Speaking in Basque Country, Herrera said:
“I reached no agreement with Manchester United. I am proud they made an offer for me, and that Athletic wanted me [to stay].
I do not feel used by United, they made a formal offer. Athletic did not want to negotiate, I value that.
“They had to pay the €36m clause and, then, seduce me more than Athletic. I never saw myself elsewhere
On Monday morning, Manchester United were reported to have sent over officials to Spain to the headquarters of the Spanish league to pay the £30.5million buyout clause, but this ended in farce.
Herrera added:
“The lawyers that were at the LFP did not represent me. I didn’t even know who they were.
“At no moment did either I or my agent reach an agreement with United. There are questions which United must answer.
The club are hopeful that they can return in January to sign Herrera and with comments like above, it seems that no personal grudge is left by the player after this transfer window.
