Wayne Rooney has stated that he is absolutely ‘gutted’ to have to return to Manchester and miss the rest of the pre-season tour after suffering from a grade one hamstring injury.
Rooney had informed Moyes that he felt a twinge in his hamstring on the morning of the squads flight to Bangkok, a twinge which flared up during the first training session in the heat of Thailand.
After a scan, the club felt it was best for Rooney to fly back to Manchester and continue his rehabilitation at Carrington while doing swimming and light running to get him ready for the start of the season.
On his official social media outlet, Facebook, Rooney said:
“Gutted to have picked up a niggling injury especially as training was going so well, heading back to Manchester to have it assessed fully but early indications are nothing to worry about”
The club have stated that he should take two-to-three weeks to recover, timings should hopefully mean he will make the last pre-season tour game against AIK in Sweden just before Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial.
