Opposition Views: Everton

Manchester United vs Everton

Top of the league, nine-points clear of City, all is looking well as Manchester United go into this weekends fixture against Everton at Old Trafford.

Now we will all remember the same fixture last season when United let their lead slip for the toffees to strike back in a game that finished 4-4…. Not only that, but betting company BetFair seem to rub salt in the wounds by featuring the games commentary in there latest advert.

Lets hope for a better performance defensively this time round…

During the week we sat down with Mark Norwood, a lifelong Everton fan from the West Midlands to answer some questions about his team and this weekends fixture:

Q: What are your thoughts on Everton’s 3-3 draw with relegation side Aston Villa last weekend?

A: A good result for us in the end, especially coming back from 3-1 down. The result hows how resilient we are with our ‘never give up attitude’’approach this season. Our defence needs to be more solid though in future so we can concentrate on winning the games outright.

Q: Still in the FA Cup and currently 5th in the league, what do you think of Everton’s chances of making Europe this season?

A: As it stands, we have a very good chance as long as we can maintain the consistency and belief in the squad. Would have liked to have added more players to help with tiredness and injuries though!

Q: Who has been your player of the season so far for Everton?

A: A lot of people would say Marouane Fellaini but it has been more of the unsung heroes like Leighton Baines and Leon Osman who have both recently been called up into the England squad.

Q: Last season most Manchester United fans look to the Everton 4-4 as the game that lost us the league, was that your teams greatest performance last term?

A: I would say so yes. You could see the building blocks within the team that has carried on into this season. Again, just need to be more difficult to breakdown.

Q: What do you think of Manchester United’s season thus far?

A: After a bit of a shaky start dropping points, I think Manchester United have done what they always do and get stronger earlier than any other team during the season. They also know how to get results without playing well where Manchester City falter.

Q: How do you see Everton lining up against us on Sunday?

A: David Moyes will keep his consistent 4-4-1-1 formation that can turn into a 4-3-3 when counter attacking.

Q: How do you think David Moyes has done in the past 5 season with the lack of transfer money available?

A: An amazing job, working closely with the Chairman they have worked out the best plan for the team whilst not jeopodising the future of the club. He gets the best out of the players and spends the money wisely, if he has some at his disposal.

Q: Finally, score prediction and first goal-scorer for Sunday’s game?

A: My heart says a 1-0 win but my head says a Man United 2-1 win, possibly 2-2 in injury time!
