Jonny Evans to miss trip to White Hart Lane

Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed this afternoon that Jonny Evans will not be ready to return for the reds in time to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Evans has been struggling with a hamstring injury that he picked up away to West Ham in the FA cup, an injury that had seen him sidelined for the Liverpool fixture where he watched from the stands with fiancee Helen McConnell.

Speaking at his weekly press conference this afternoon, Sir Alex said:

“We’ve got a strong squad. Jonny Evans still isn’t available, he’s not 100 per cent. Other than that, we’re not too bad. We got a lot of players a game on Wednesday and I thought they did well. It was a good performance.”

In slightly better news, Nemanja Vidic is set to make a return after suffered a knock against Liverpool which have him slight concussion, but after being rested on Wednesday against West Ham he is back training and available for selection against Tottenham Hotspur.

The squad will be flying out to Qatar after the Spurs match for a four-day training camp in the sun, find out more here

Its a shame about Evans but he does seem to be picking up injuries regularly recently. I consider him to be the main centre back and I was hoping he would play around 45-50 games this season. I think you need that sort of consistency and Evans is at the perfect age now to become a leader in our defence. We have great experience in Ferdinand and Vidic, along with promising youth in Smalling and Jones. I see Evans though as the mainstream defender in the squad now.

Smalling and Jones performed really well against West Ham on Wednesday, however I would expect that Ferdinand and Vidic will play against Spurs.

Spurs Midfield is stronger but just wary of the RVP threat against Dawson. The ex A***nal Ra**** is on fire. close game could be a repeat scoreline from OT earlier on this season but with Yanited winning 3-2 instead. Always a great game. COME ON YOU SPUDS!
