The longest running transfer saga of the summer has come to an end with United’s website officially announcing the capture of Arsenal’s (one remaining) marquee star Robin Van Persie.
The fee, rumoured to be in the region of £24m, is high given Van Persie only had 12 months left on his deal with the Gunners, but Arsenal demanded a premium to sell him to us, and were powerless to stop the transfer once Van Persie made it known that United was his favoured destination.
Van Persie is the fifth Arsenal player to join a ‘rival’ in Manchester following City’s capture of Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri over recent transfer windows, and must leave fans of the north London club wondering where they go from here.
Van Persie has arguably been in his best form over the last 18 months, scoring 30 goals for Arsenal in the league last year, winning the Premier League’s Golden Boot award.
