Manchester United target admits he wants to leave AS Monaco this summer

Manchester United target Fabinho has made it clear that he wants to leave AS Monaco before the transfer window shuts on August 31.

The Brazilian, an integral aspect of Monaco’s Ligue 1 triumph last season, emerged on Jose Mourinho’s radar – alongside that of Paris Saint Germain, Juventus and Atletico Madrid – during the early stages of the transfer window as the 54-year-old pursued a defensive midfielder, but noise surrounding his name has notably quietened down ever since United completed the signing of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea earlier this month.

Fabinho, despite featuring during an opening weekend 4-1 win over Dijon, has reportedly grown frustrated at Monaco for not handing him a chance to speak with other clubs and even stormed out of a training session last week.

Speaking on the subject of his future, the 23-year-old made a point of talking about Monaco in a way that suggested they were a thing of the past.

“I feel good, there is nothing to say about my situation, the club knows my will,” he said. “I hope we will continue this way and that Monaco will still be okay.”

Monaco’s vice-president, Vadim Vasilyev, has made it clear that the club intends to hold on to both Kylian Mbappe and Fabinho this summer after losing Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Tiemoue Bakayoko to Premier League clubs.

“We have kept all of the key players that we intended to keep,” he said. “Fabinho is a must-have player in midfield who was being courted by all the major clubs.

Mbappe was consigned to the bench for Monaco’s win over Dijon amid reports of an imminent agreement to join PSG whilst Fabinho is seemingly being kept at Monaco against his will. Jose Mourinho has made it clear that his emphasis lies firmly on securing a winger before the window shuts but may feel tempted to prize away the clearly unhappy 23-year-old over the next two weeks.

Enjoy that? Give it a share!
