Mourinho confirms early Manchester United team news ahead of EFL Cup final

Jose Mourinho has offered an update on the fitness of several of his first team players ahead of Manchester United’s EFL Cup final with Southampton. The news is something of a mixed bag; Phil Jones and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was injured during Wednesday’s Europa League match with Saint-Etienne remain sidelined, but Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney, who missed the trip to France entirely are available.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Friday, the United manager offered this: “Michael  is available,” said the boss. “Clever, experienced. He left the pitch [on Wednesday] in the right moment so Michael is available. Mkhitaryan is out and Jones, let’s see and decide tomorrow.

“Wayne’s fine, he’s training with the team. He was not selected for Saint-Etienne because he was not ready to play but he was ready to have one more important training session and no doubts, no doubts, he is involved in the game.”

Enjoy that? Give it a share!
