Mourinho confirms Manchester United star is staying put

Whilst news of any potential players joining Manchester United has been scarce during this January transfer window, there’s been plenty of news when it comes to players that could leave the club. Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin have both left the club this month for Lyon and Everton respectively, and the last question mark was over Ashley Young’s future.

The former Aston Villa winger has been used sparingly by Jose Mourinho so far this season, and reports had suggested that he was the subject of interest from the Chinese Super League or that a loan deal to another Premier League club could happen. But Mourinho shot down any suggestion that Young could leave in his press conference prior to Wednesday night’s league meeting with Hull City:

“Young is definitely staying,” Jose said. “He is selected for tomorrow. He stays with me until the end of the season.”

Given how crammed United’s fixture list is due to their ongoing commitments in four competitions, keeping hold of Young, given his experience and flexibility seems wise. Mourinho’s side have seven games to navigate in February, starting with Hull’s visit this week.
