Manchester United set to pay £11million for Thomas Vermaelen?

Ed Woodward and Manchester United are hoping that they can secure the signing of Thomas Vermaelen from Arsenal, paying a transfer fee of up to £11million and offering the player up to £100,000-a-week, according to the Daily Mail.

Manchester United’s interest in Belgium defender Thomas Vermaelen is one that has been rumoured for months, with the Mirror also reporting yesterday that Ed Woodward made an Official £6million bid for the 28-year-old last week, a bid which was rejected by Arsenal straight away.

Manchester United and Thomas Vermaelen have said to have already agreed on a wage package and contract deal at Old Trafford, just awaiting discussions between both United and Arsenal to be completed, with Arsenal very reluctant to let their defender go for anything less than £12million.

The Mail‘s report claim that sources close to the Belgian squad over in Brazil, where Belgium are still involved the World Cup, indicate that Thomas Vermaelen has been instructed not to talk about the move to United publicly.

Not only a move to Manchester United for Thomas Vemaelen, but he is in line for a significant pay rise with the new deal set to earn him a wage of around £100,000-a-week.

With 12-months left on his current contract at Arsenal, a £11million offer from Manchester United will look more than convincing, the club hope to secure the deal after the World Cup.

This can not happen he will be a waist of money. Vermaelan is no better than what we have got he doesn’t even get a game for Arsenal. Woodward van gaal please leave him alone

Get him fit and his confidence back it would be a great signing on his game he is probably the closest thing to vidic not as good but is worth a shot only 28yrs old coming into his prime 4good yrs to be had also perfect to play in a3-5-2 system

If you think he is the closest thing to Vidic then I want what you are smoking. Smalling and Evans are better CBs. He has one year left and we are going to pay 11 million when arsenal bought him for 10 million?

If you think he is the closest thing to Vidic then I want what you are smoking. Smalling and Evans are better CBs. He has one year left and we are going to pay 11 million when arsenal bought him for 10 million? This is going to be The Young signing all over again if it happens. Waste of money if it comes off. I am praying it doesn’t.

When he signed a few seasons ago he was one of the top center half’s in the league fresh start and united would get the best out of him again.. And as for smalling he is terrible id give him in the deal straight swap and evens is the best center half at the club by a long ways

When he signed, he was making headlines for scoring goals. Those that actually watched him could see the liability that he was. People thought that would be ironed out of him. Sadly for him it wasn’t. At 28, he isn’t going to get better and the fact we have at least two, with potentially 3 players better in his position at CB than him, it would be a waste of cash. M. Keane.

Smallins at CB is better than TV. So is Evans. Jones is on par, if he sorts out his positioning he will be better (and actually has time to improve). Smalling for a straight swap for TV would give Arsenal a better defender than the one we are getting. You are an idiot if you think TV will improve us or is better than anything we have right now.

Smalling is a decent prospect if he and Jones are allowed to form a regular CB partnership, instead of taking it in turns to be right back.

Vermaelan is ****.would hate to see him in a united top. Can’t start for arsenal or Belgium. Mangala and hummels are a better options, would like to see Vidal and Alexis at united
