Who's in the best Manchester United XI you've ever seen live?

This week, in order to pad out a podcast robbed of a match to talk about due to the tyranny of international football, the RedMancunian podcast team debated the best United XI they have ever seen play in the flesh. Whilst some of the picks were straight forward (left wing anyone?) others prompted great debate.. Schmeichel or van der Sar? Irwin or Evra? Could we include Captain Marvel Bryan Robson in midfield, and which Dutchman made the cut up front?

You can hear our final team and the justification for it here, but we want your views too. Leave us a comment with the best Manchester United XI in a 4-4-2 formation that you’ve seen play live and your reasons for picking that team and we’ll collate the votes before next weeks podcast.

No ‘defensive’ midfielder, who cares, the opposition would never get the ball! ( and Nobby would scare today’s players to death). Just too young to see ‘the Babes’.

One of the best teams of all time would be including Duncan Edwards in a DM role in a 1/4/1/3/1/1 fluid formation. Bobby Charlton once said of DE, ‘You could not get near him’; he was awesome.

Schmeichel
Neville Stam Ferdinand Irwin
Edwards
Ronaldo Charlton Best
Cantana
Law

first saw united at Old Trafford in May 2003 so this would be my team. Very hard to pick!

442

Van der Sar
Neville Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Ronaldo Keane Scholes Giggs
Rooney van Nistelrooy

(only saw Beckham play once so opted for Ronaldo instead)

Been to 2 games: a 3-1 League Cup win at Birmingham City in 2005 and the 5-5 against West Brom last season. Therefore, my XI would be:

Howard
Neville Ferdinand Brown Buttner
Carrick Scholes
Ronaldo Rooney Kagawa
v. Persie

Subs: Jones, Valencia, Hernandez, Park, Saha, Giggs, Lindegaard

de gea(purely because hes going to be the best in the world very soon)
